Facebook down at about 3:00 PM UTC time on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Is Facebook down?

A question asked on google by many internet surfers. It is down for several hours with no justification. Continue reading this article to find out why.

Facebook has reported on their twitter account "We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."

The reason for the outage is not clear, and no official announcement from Facebook was made to justify this outage. Security experts are pointing that Facebook's outage is due to a Domain Name System (DNS) issue. CISCO's Internet analysis division has also agreed on the Domain Name System (DNS) to be an on going issue and the reason for this problem. Brian Krebs a journalist specialized in cybercrime, security, privacy and former Washington Post reporter has tweeted the following: Confirmed: The DNS records that tell systems how to find http://Facebook.com or http://Instagram.com got withdrawn this morning from the global routing tables. Can you imagine working at FB right now, when your email no longer works & all your internal FB-based tools fail?

To be more precise (and Geek Factor 5) the BGP routes serving Facebook's authoritative DNS were withdrawn, rendering all Facebook domains inaccessible. That's per @DougMadory , who knows a few things about BGP/DNS.

Is WhatsApp down?

WhatsApp is down too probably due to relying on the same network resources as Facebook. Many influencers are pointing the Facebook audience to switch to other chatting apps such as Signal claiming it is more secure and more private.

Edward Snowden has tweeted the following, "Facebook-owned Whatsapp being down is a reminder that you and your friends should probably be using a more private, non-profit alternative like @Signalapp anyway (or another open-source app of your choice). It's just as free, and takes like 30 seconds to switch."

Facebook Outage Consequences

Facebook stocks have been hitting a downfall of almost 5% in 2 hours following this outage.

World Health Organization tweeted that while social media is down, your mask has to remain up and never down.

Facebook workspace is down too, anyone using this platform is now unable to work.

Jokes about Facebook are spreading all over Twitter.
